Physical Education

At Ashperton PE forms an important part of a curriculum. We encourage everyone to take part. We are fortunate to have a 7 acre field where we encourage our children to walk a mile every morning. All children are encouraged to take part in our wide varieties of after school clubs including hockey, rugby, netball, football, rambling and Zumba.

Break times and Lunch times the children have a good space to run around in with a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) which the children can enjoy all year round.

The aims of the PE curriculum are:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities.
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time.
  • engage in competitive sports and activities.
  • lead healthy, active lives.
  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
  • use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke].
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

The aim of physical education is to develop physical competence so that all children are able to move efficiently and safely and understand what they are doing. The outcome -physical literacy- is as important to children’s overall development as literacy and numeracy.
